June 6th - National Apple Sauce Cake Day

Wow there is a day for Apple Sauce Cake day.  I have just the recipe for you.

In Davenport, Iowa, there is a terrific restaurant called the Machine Shed.  They serve family style and with the huge feast they set before you they serve an apple sauce cake with their homemade breads.  They share the recipe on cards and their web site to all that want the recipe so I think it is ok if I share and pass it on.  It is extremely moist.  Everyone seems to reach for it first when the bread basket is pasted.

Apple Sauce Cake

3 cups flour
1 ½ tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup soft butter
1 ½ cups sugar
¼ cup evaporated milk or milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cups applesauce
1 tbsp. cinnamon

Grease 2 8 x 4 loaf pans and set aside.

Combine your dry ingredients of flour, soda and salt and set aside.

In a large bowl beat your butter with an electric mixer on high for 30 seconds.  Add sugar and beat until well mixed.  Beat in the eggs, milk and vanilla.  Add the applesauce and cinnamon and mix well.  Add your dried ingredients.

Bake in a 325 degree oven for 60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.  Cool for 10 minutes and remove from the pans.

Serving it warm is wonderful and oh how the kitchen smells.

Be happy and may God bless you and yours.
