Here is a super simple and beautiful idea for a 4th picnic.
1 white cake mix
1 large tub of whipped topping
Fresh raspberries or strawberries
Fresh blueberries
Follow your box directions in mixing the white cake
mix. Cut the batter in half by placing in two bowls. Add red food coloring to one and blue to the
other half.
Pour the batter into two 8 x 8 inch greased baking dishes. Follow the baking instructions on the cake
mix box.
Once your cake has cooled completely, cut the red and blue
cakes into 1 inch squares.
To assemble the trifle take 1/2 of the blue cubes and place
them in the bottom of your trifle bowl.
Top with whipped topping. Repeat
the layers, adding half of the red cake, 1/3 of the whipped topping, the second
half of the blue cake, and top with the remaining filling, etc.
Top the trifle with sliced strawberries and blueberries, and
serve! You may wish to also sprinkle
berries in between layers if you have plenty of berries.
